Festival sparkler LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE from the USA, starring Australia’s own Toni Collette, has been voted Best Feature – World Cinema in the 2006 Urban Cinefile Audience Awards. The Editors of Urban Cinefile, Andrew L. Urban and Louise Keller, presented the award to surprise guest Toni Collette at the 53rd Sydney Film Festival closing night ceremony on Saturday 24 June 2006. The Urban Cinefile Audience Awards of the Sydney Film Festival provide filmmakers with the kudos that popularity brings, creatively as well as commercially. Audience awards are a yardstick for film professionals as they reflect audience response to their films. And not all audiences are the same.
We believe that the audiences that patronise the Sydney Film Festival are true film lovers: screen literate and keenly discerning.
