About the Dendys

logoThe Dendy Awards Australian Short Films competition has been presented by the Sydney Film Festival for the past 36 years.

Showcasing the best of Australian short filmmaking, the Dendy Awards, as they are affectionately known, have provided an all-important stepping stone to the careers of many filmmakers. Here are the finalists for 2006.

Previous winners include directors Phil Noyce (1974, Castor and Pollux), Jane Campion (1984, A Girl's Own Story), Samantha Lang (1995, Audacious), Ivan Sen (2000, Dust), and Sejong Park (2004, Birthday Boy), just to name a few.

The finalists across the six categories - Documentary, Experimental, Best Short Form Short, Best Long Form Short, Yoram Gross Animation Award, CRC Award - will have a one-off exclusive screening at the State Theatre on Saturday 24 June, 10am-6pm, with a single ticket covering the full day of screenings. The winners will be announced at the Closing Night Awards Ceremony that evening.

A note from Dendy Films

Sister companies, film distributor Dendy Films and exhibitor Dendy Cinemas, are proud to continue our association with the Sydney Film Festival and further our commitment to recognising emerging filmmaking talent.

Many recipients of the Dendy Awards have gone on to become major contributors to the local and international industry and we're pleased that the awards are recognised within the industry, the film-going community and the media as an important acknowledgment of excellence.

Like the Sydney Film Festival, Dendy is proud of its reputation for bringing new and innovative cinema from Australia and around the world to an ever expanding audience in Sydney and the rest of Australasia.
